Canned Fish Salad Thai Style – Yum Pla Grapong

This is one of the easiest Salads in Thai kitchen. For a long time, these canned Fish is the food for the poor or the students, but nowadays we make so much of it that it is no longer considered that way anymore. Canned Fish comes with tomato Sauce, but despite the good taste of it, Thai people add herbs and Chili to make it to their liking. The best ingredient in this dish is fresh Thai herbs like lemon grass, lime leave and mint. The herbs are believed to release gas from the stomach. You can add the chili as cut pieces or as a whole. The best way to taste Thai Chili is to eat them whole. But for those of you who don’t eat that spicy, cut pieces will be easy on your stomach.

Ingredients:
Canned Mackerel in Tomato Sauce, 2 cans.
Shallot, 3 pieces, clean and cut in small slice.
Lemon grass, clean ant cut into thin slices, half a cup.
Fish Sauce, 1 tablespoon.
Lemon Juice, 2 teaspoon.
Lime leave, 1 leave, cut thinly across.
Fresh Chili cut in small pieces, 1 tablespoon.
Mint, Coriander and Salad leaves for garnish.

How to make:

  1. Clean and cut the all the vegetables and herbs mentioned above.
  2. Bring out the mixing bowl and put in the shallot and take out the fish from the can, put them into the bowl follow by the lemon grass, lime leave.
  3. Season with lemon juice, Fish Sauce and Chili then mix gently, so that the fish meat doesn’t break into small pieces.(This is only to make it presentable. Some people like to break the fish meat into small pieces. You can make it either way)
