Fish and Chili Dip Sauce (dry) – Nam Prik pla two – น้ำพริกปลาทู

One of the things I often make is this fish dip sauce for myself at home. I love to eat it with fresh vegetables and lot of hot steam rice. This is what we call poor people food because steamed small mackerel is, for a long time, considered food for the poor like eggs  and instance noodles. But these are the free living ocean fish and their meat also contain Omega 3 like Salmon, but maybe with a lot less chemical substances.

Ingredients Serves 2 Notes
Steamed Mackerel 2 pieces deep fry, use meat only
Garlic 1 handful peel and clean
Shallots 1 handful peel and clean
Chili 20 pieces clean
Fish Sauce 1.5 tablespoon
Lime 1 piece
Coriander to garnish
Thai Parsley to garnish

How to make:

  1. Roast the garlic, shallots and chilli together in the pan until they are cooked and soften.
  2. Beat the roasted ingredients using mortar until the mixture become a thick paste.
  3. Add the fish meat in the paste and beat them well together.
  4. Season with Fish Sauce and Lime juice and use the pestle to mix them well.
  5. Serve with fresh Galangal flower, cucumber, winged beans, and various types of eggplants.
